"The Camera Sees But Doesn't Communicate" by Robert Chaplin

This new talk resulted from the KCC Roundtable Meeting with Robert Chaplin, where we shared thoughts and ideas with Robert for
a hybrid presentation he is giving to kick off the March 10th and 11th, 2023, F3C Conference.

There is nothing magical about a camera. It is a tool. The camera sees and records everything in its field of view, but it can't translate what it sees into an emotion or what we, as photographers, are trying to communicate.

We get the job done by understanding our camera's limitations and how our camera "sees" and by taking advantage of the possibilities in our "creativity toolbox" needed to communicate. Some of the tools in our Creativity Toolbox include imagination, understanding how to program the camera, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and post-processing potential.

We join camera clubs, attend lectures, go on field trips to learn, and hang out with like-minded people. Join Robert for this liberating pre-conference presentation, where he will share his thoughts, ideas, and processes. See his before (what the camera sees) and after (what he envisioned) photography and art. Expand your horizons and let this talk be an inspiration for the conference field trips and hands-on sessions.

The camera is the tool; we are the magic.
