Architectural Field Trip - FIU

 We will convene in front of the Frost Art Museum on the
MMC campus of Florida International University.

Directions:

• Enter the campus from the main entrance at SW 107th Avenue and SW 16th Street
• Proceed through the traffic circle and park in the Blue Parking Garage to your left or the parking spaces outside of the parking garage (PG 2 on the map). There is metered parking on the first floor of the parking garage.
• I was informed by Parking and Transportation that normal parking rules are not enforced on Sundays.
• Metered parking is available in the parking garage, if you would prefer to pay for your parking. Park your car in a metered spot, note the parking space number and pay at the pay station in that garage.
• The Frost Art Museum faces the Parking Garage 2 and we will meet in front of the museum’s entrance.

Itinerary:

We will be walking through the campus, stopping at selected buildings where Dan Forer will talk about how he would approach the photographic possibilities, given the particular design of the building. These will be brief talks without opportunities for detailed photographing until we get to the last four buildings on the tour that pose significant photographic challenges.
We will spend more time with the four buildings, actually applying techniques that Dan will have given us during his Thursday presentation.

Recommended equipment:

Camera, tripod, a wide-angle lens with at least 35mm or AP-C equivalent. Shoes for walking, hat, sunblock and water

• There will be a moderate amount of walking outdoors, so dress accordingly and be prepared to walk with the equipment that you intend to use.
• Although there are water fountains throughout the campus, you might want to carry a bottle of water.
• The field trip will start at 8 a.m. and will conclude around noon.
• Those who wish to return to buildings and shoot on their own are welcome to do so.
• There are three food venues open Sunday and they will be listed in another handout.
